David Janney

Senior Pastor

After pastoring for 25 years in a large church in Northern Virginia, I felt God calling me to His “new thing.” My family and I moved to Smith Mountain Lake to serve at PBC in October 2020.

Pam, the love of my life, and I were married in 1988. We have three awesome adult children the Lord has blessed us with–Josh, Jon, and Suzy. We want our lakefront home to be a place of restoration and blessing to everyone God brings into our lives.

I have undergraduate degrees in Bible and Piano, a Masters of Divinity from Denver Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

I love people, piano, and playing any kind of board game. My favorite movie is anything that combines action and suspense. My favorite dessert: Let’s just say, I’ve never met a piece of pie or cake I didn’t like! I enjoy meeting people personally, and look forward to getting to know you better over lunch or a cup of coffee/tea.

Pastor of Student Ministries

I was born and raised in Bedford County. It seems as if, all my life, God has drawn me toward student ministry. I’ve been a camp counselor, managed Christian and community sports leagues, and served as a Paraprofessional at the nearby Huddleston Elementary School. I’ve worked with students at three different churches: Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA; New Chapel Baptist Church in Rustburg, VA; and Palestine Baptist Church since 2018. I graduated from Liberty University in 2015 and currently serve as the Middle School Athletic Director at Liberty Christian Academy.

My bride, Emily, and I met at a camp in Tennessee. A month later, we knew were in love. We’ve been married since 2019. Emily is on the PBC Praise and Worship Team. We are both part of a Young Couples’ Life Group and love serving together in Youth Ministry. In our free time, we enjoy spending time with family and going to the beach.

I enjoy all kinds of sports: golf, baseball, basketball and football. I’m a diehard UVA and Washington Football Team fan. I connect best with students through common interests. So let me know what interests you, and then let’s trust God to make the connection.

Children's Ministry Director

My story is one not many can tell - I am blessed to be serving my church family in the very same church in which I was born and raised, baptized, and married! At the age of 16, I was baptized after accepting Christ as my Savior and was soon asked to help with the annual Children’s Christmas Cantata. It was then that I fell in love with ministering to children. For the past 30 years I have served in many capacities that lead me to being Children's Director at PBC.

I married my high school sweetheart, Jason, at PBC in May 1997 and we have three children- daughter, Mikayla and sons Collin, and Colby. I love being able to worship with my family alongside so many other family members and friends at PBC. When I am not at the church or working as a LPTA (physical therapy), I enjoy just hanging out with family and friends as well as watching different levels of sports especially baseball, basketball, and football. I also enjoy a side hobby of capturing moments and memories through photography. God has truly blessed me so much!

Office Administrator

I have lived in Huddleston, VA all my life, matter of fact I have lived on the same road most of my life. My parents and grandparents attend(ed) PBC and were very active. I was raised here along with my sister and brother.

I graduated from Staunton River High School in 1991 and got my Associates Degree at Virginia Western Community College in Office Technology. I was studying to become a Medical Secretary but surprise…God had other plans.

My husband and I were married in 1996 here at PBC. He decided to go into business for himself in 2003. We have 2 grown children, Taylor and Drew.

I enjoy spending time with family & friends, time at the lake, and traveling. Mostly traveling…lol
